I had what I thought to be just a regular sinus infection about 3 weeks ago. You know. . . sore throat, full sinuses, coughing up yucky junk. I thought it would last a couple days & go away as usual. Nope. Didn't happen. I ended up sick for 2 weeks, on antibiotics and cough medicine, eating soup and drinking hot tea, & I still have a crazy amount of sinus drainage & a slight cough. About a week after coming down with my sickness, my first-born came down with what we thought was the same thing. After all, everything seems to be blooming all at once. "It's the pollen!" or so we thought. We ended up taking her to the doctor for answers -- 3 different times! Her fever climbed to 103.3 and didn't want to respond very well to the ibuprofen we gave her. It ends up, she did have a sinus infection and *gasp* pinkeye. We knew what that meant. After all, we do have 3 children, and when one gets something, they all end up with it!
Well, things were going well until last Friday. Our youngest then began having sore throat & fever. Then the second-born came down with the same garbage -- or so we thought. We teetered on whether to take the other two to the doctor. My husband said it would be best. After making the appointment, the youngest began showing signs of pinkeye and shortly after, our second-born did, too. Good thing I made the appointment! It turns out our second-born had strep. Amazingly, the other two did not.
Our greatest puzzle? Where did they get it? We haven't been to church since I came down with my illness, just in case it was a cold (which now I think it must have been). I haven't taken them shopping in quite a while, due to my illness. My husband was doing the shopping, bless his heart.
We do have a dog - it's relatively new to us. We've had her for 3 months. When I picked up my eldest from her grandmother's, on the way home from the doctor's office with the others, she proclaimed to me that she had found information in one of Grandmoma's medical books that strep can come from animals. Oh great! Does this mean we're in for return bouts of this yucky round in the future? I sure hope not!
I hope your family is well right now -- I truly do! What do you do when you're sick? Do you have any tried and true home remedies? If so, I would love it if you would leave a comment below!
